Qatar, because of its size and immense wealth, has adopted a foreign policy based on the theme “You can fool all the people some of the time, and some of the people all the time”

What Qatar has forgotten is the rest, which says “..but you cannot fool all the people, all the time”.

Qatar is about to hit the word “but” in Lincoln’s words of wisdom. How do I know? Not because anyone of importance told me or anyone from the US Government has expressed to me anything of value, but because after living 36 years inside the Beltway, the air becomes your best messenger.

A friendly advice to Qatar is to take a position, a firm one; and to stop telling everyone what they want to hear. It’s catching-up with them faster than they can say Adios al-Jazeera.

The other advice is to stop supporting the Muslim Brotherhood. It will come back to haunt you and you cannot afford to be haunted because of your size. The Arab world does not belong to people who express liberalism but secretly support extremism. You can still be devout Muslims without trying too hard.

Qatar is blessed with an intelligent Foreign Minister. Either his advisors are hopeless “yes” men with no courage to tell him the truth or his reading of US policy is through tailored intelligence reports that have no imagination.

Last word, never forget that your money buys the face of a coin but never the tail of the same coin. In many cases, it can’t buy either no matter how hard you try. If you get my drift..
