After learning of the IAEA secret side deals with Iran, the agency needs urgent reforms.
Consider the fact that the International Atomic Energy Agency was established in 1957 as an independent arm of the United Nations. It began when President Eisenhower addressed the United Nations General Assembly in 1953 under the auspices of a speech entitled “Atoms for Peace“.
The objectives of the IAEA, according to its Statute, are:
The Agency shall seek to accelerate and enlarge the contribution of atomic energy to peace, health and prosperity throughout the world. It shall ensure, so far as it is able, that assistance provided by it or at its request or under its supervision or control is not used in such a way as to further any military purpose.
Since the IAEA, which is based in Vienna, has two “Regional Safeguards Offices”, one of which is located in Japan, it is obvious that its aim was to help the Japanese become energy independent through their peaceful use of nuclear power.
The world, in 1957, is different than the world of 2015; yet, the IAEA remains an agency under whose watch we saw Pakistan, North Korea, Israel, and India attain the nuclear threshold. With the exception of Israel and India, A.Q. Khan of Pakistan and North Korea have not acted responsibly.
A.Q. Khan spread his nuclear knowledge like candy on Halloween and North Korea threatens South Korea almost daily.
Considering its failures, and the danger Iran and other countries pose to world peace, should the United States not seek reforming the IAEA? The first thing we should do is seek to move the agency to Washington DC and to impose certain new rules upon its operational statutes to insure that no directors in the future enter into secret side deals with rogue nations.
Atomic weapons are simply too dangerous to trust the United Nations with policing. Such should be trusted to either the United States alone or to the five permanent members of the Security Council outside the scope of the U.N. influence system.
There is no doubt that if left unattended, the IAEA would lead us into another nation developing its own nuclear weapons. Its secret side deals with Iran letting rogue Iran police itself is ample proof of that statement. Can you imagine what might happen if Iran gets the bomb? The world would receive threats on a daily basis to comply with the demands of savage Mullahs.
It is time to overhaul the IAEA by peeling it away from the United Nations. There is little difference between the IAEA’s secret side deals with Iran, a country that sponsors terror, and a United Nations that invites Iran to sit on its Human Rights Commission.
The IAEA has failed to secure us from rogue countries building nuclear bombs, and will fail us again in the future. This time though, its failure will be felt by everyone living within the 2,000 Kms diameter Iranian missiles can reach.
