Today’s Supreme Court, probably the most mistrusted ever by the majority of Americans, is due to hear several cases, which, even before rendering an opinion, demonstrate the American systemic racism so gloriously on display before our very eyes. This is 2022, folks. Yet, our country is still showing the very same signs of racism that Americans experienced during slavery. Nothing has changed. From one generation to another, racist white people keep their foot on the pedal to marginalize, harm, and even kill black Americans.

According to Jessica Levinson, an MSNBC Opinion Columnist, the Supreme Court is due to hear two cases. One that deals with voting rights and extreme gerrymandering, and the other that deals with providing state legislators powers over the courts in deciding an election.

It really matters little what laws we have, the far right is invariably breaking them. One has to sue continuously to protect existing laws.

VOTING RIGHTS ACT

Take the first case to be heard. The Alabama redistricted its state to concentrate all black votes in one district over seven even though the black voters represent 27% of the votes. The impact is to dilute the black votes.

The Supreme Court will be hearing this case, and if we have to throw guesses like darts, it is unlikely that Kavanaugh, Barrett, and Alito would side by the black voters against the racist Alabamian politicians practicing their ugly craft. What this case demonstrates is that the American systemic racism is alive and well. Regardless of how the Supreme Court rules. the fact that in the lovely racist state of Alabama, black people have to fight for their rights as whole citizens of our country speaks volumes about how uncivilized many white racist Americans truly are.

Their hate for justice and equality, when it comes to the fate of African-Americans, not only shows that America is part jungle, part civilized, but it also shows the incessant assault on our laws by the far right to diminish their impact. The more the far right challenges the laws on the books, the higher the chance a judge may overturn them, through precedent or outright corruption of the court.

It really matters little what laws we have, the far right is invariably breaking them. One has to sue continuously to protect existing laws.

Maybe, we will truly become civilized in 300 years. After all, we are still a very young country going through the pains of growing up as a reckless and dumb teenage years.

INDEPENDENT STATE LEGISLATORS

“Independent state legislators” is nothing but a fancy label to provide the racists in this country the power to overturn elections without any oversight. No courts, no state judges, and no accountability.

Because of the concentration of the red votes in rural America, there is a disequilibrium favoring the GOP with regard to voting for state legislators. Using that singular power, the red states are trying to overturn any election, which might tip the balance more in favor of highly concentrated and democratic-leaning urban areas. When states like Georgia can vote for two democrats as Senators, the state legislators want to single-handedly, and without the courts’ oversight, be able to overturn an election.

Yet, another assault on the rule of law and our tradition as a nation that values democracy. Anything to keep the white racists in power. Even at the expense of the very same values that made our nation great. What a tragedy!

The fact that this kind of shenanigans are part and parcel of the American landscape in 2022 tells us much about how racist a country we truly are. It’s an uphill fight to protect old laws on the books as the Republicans assault them continuously. Already, the voting rights of black Americans have been stripped to the bone by the barbarians who think this is their country and blacks are still their slaves.

In every attempt at adjudicating existing laws, a small of rot emanates from their mouths that one can interpret as “We need to put them in their places”.

Maybe, we will truly become civilized in 300 years. After all, we are still a very young country going through the pains of growing up as a reckless and dumb teenage boy.
