You can react either way you can to the title of this Blog, but the truth remains that as long as Trump lives, America is not safe from his onslaught on our democracy and its institutions. The man will always remain a threat until his last breath. So, let’s hope he succumbs to some disease or a quick heart attack to save our republic.
It used to be that if you were a threat to the white Protestant institutions as a Catholic (JFK) or a Black leader (MLK), the Protestants in power, like J. Edgar Hoover, took your life away mysteriously. These times are long gone since the 60’s even though the stain reminds us all the tumultuous history many endured at the hands of the white men in power.
The fact these legislators are practicing their craft in daylight and with open contempt to the rules of what a real democracy should look like is testimony that Trump’s very existence is a threat to America.
HIS VERY EXISTENCE IS A THREAT TO DEMOCRACY
Donald Trump has brought forth one of the ugliest political argument any leader can make in support of democracy. In effect, Trump’s Big Lie was really about stealing an election he lost to Catholics and Jews. He could not, as a white Protestant, fathom the notion that anyone could run America other than his ilk. His embarkation on trying to stifle our democracy had one goal only: To keep the White Anglo-Saxon Protestants in power come rain or high water. He failed because our democracy proved to be a bit more resilient to his fascism.
But his very existence is keeping that ugly machine churning. Take the 253 law changes in 43 States that Republican legislators are trying to introduce to kill our democracy by suppressing the votes of black and brown people. This is all done to please him, and to prepare for control of the republic by whites only. The fact these legislators are practicing their craft in daylight and with open contempt to the rules of what a real democracy should look like is testimony that Trump’s very existence is a threat to America. In the short-haul as well as the long-haul.
America today lies helpless in the throes of a madman who will stop at nothing to keep the White Supremacists from power again at the expense of the minorities of this nation. This American fascism that Trump represents will spread across many countries in the northern hemisphere faster than you can scream “Fire”. Already, in Hungary, we have a prime minister who advocates for white power openly just as Adolph Hitler advocated for pure Arianism in the 1930’s. As long as Trump lives, the whole world is not safe.
New laws to protect our democracy are urgently needed to hold accountable anyone who believes that it’s their God given rights, in a democracy, to have a monopoly on power.
MONITOR TRUMP AND HIS ENTOURAGE
In another Blog, I defended the notion that our Justice Department should monitor Donald Trump 24/7. Not only him, but anyone who communicates with him, meets him, or circles in his orbit. If we don’t, whatever sinister job he is planning to kill off our democracy for good might just succeed. This is how dangerous he has become to this country; as well as globally.
My hope is that President Joe Biden has signed an Executive Order directing the FBI to do its job investigating Trumps’ intentions and trying to contain him and his associates from ever harming this country again. Of course that’s no guarantee. The only guarantee, we as the voters of this country have in eradicating his White Supremacists views, is to wish for his early and natural death. As long as Trump lives, America is not safe from whatever ills he harbors for her future.
Meanwhile, we need urgent laws not addressed in H.R. 1 to fully mitigate the risks of another Trump rising. In the wings the likes of Josh Hawley and Ted Cruz lie waiting to ride the Trump wind regardless where it may lead this nation. We cannot allow some fake wannabees to continue his legacy long after he is gone. New laws to protect our democracy are urgently needed to hold accountable anyone who believes that it’s their God given rights, in a democracy, to have a monopoly on power.
