Syria’s Damascus butcher and the most violent man in the Arab world said the American presence in Syria will lead to armed “resistance” that will eventually force the U.S. troops to leave. Assad threatens US troops in Syria to meet the same fate as those in Iraq after its liberation from Saddam Hussein.
Assad spoke in an interview with Russia24 TV and Rossiya Segodnya news agency. Both broadcasted the interview on Friday.
REMEMBER IRAQ WHEN WE IGNORED IRANIAN AND SYRIAN TERROR
To emphasize his threat to US troops in Syria, Assad said the Americans should remember the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and that “Syria will not be an exception.”
He didn’t elaborate further, but the threat of terror against US troops in Syria was deliberately conveyed. Washington must remember that when we did not respond to Iranian and Syrian terror, we placed our troops on the defensive. This led to more terror.
U.S. officials said this week that Washington will leave about 600 troops in Syria to fight the Islamic State group.
Trump’s decision last month to withdraw the bulk of roughly 1,000 American troops from Syria drew bipartisan condemnation. Both Congress accused the President of abandoning the Kurds.
Washington must respond to Assad’s threats not just in words but in deeds too. Short of that, Assad will unleash his terror against US troops in Syria
It came after Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan warned Trump earlier he intended to carry out an operation to clear the Turkey-Syria border of Syrian Kurdish fighters.
WASHINGTON MUST RESPOND
Washington must respond to Assad’s threats not just in words but in deeds too. Should Washington ignore Assad’s threat, he will will see it as a sign of weakness. Just as he saw it in Iraq when we did not respond to his terror by bombing his palace.
Assad will most likely follow through against US troops with IED’s and suicide bombs. To include re-deploying specially trained Islamists for a guerilla warfare against US troops.
Without Russian support, Assad is the weakest man in the Arab world holding on to power by the skin of his teeth. The threats he just leveled aim for two goals: Hide his weakness, and re-invent Iraqi terror in Syria. With help from Iran.
