Whether we like it or not, the demented representation in Congress we see every day parading their trash on TV and Twitter is part and parcel of the culture of this country. Without a doubt, Congress represents a slice of Americana. For every Lauren Boebert, there are tens of thousands like her out in the real world. And for every Rep. Paul Gosar or Sen. Tommy Tuberville there are millions of angry white Americans unable to come to terms with the notion of compromise in politics, or even in life in general.

We are who represent us. To many, our representation with the likes of ex-Rep. Liz Cheney, Rep. Jamie Raskin, Sen. Mitt Romney, or former Gov. Chris Christie we find solace in channeling our wisdom through them. They truly represent the reasonable and the rational people whose votes count towards better governance.

However, for the voters of the likes of Marjorie Taylor Greene and Paul Gosar, their ignorance is on display through their representation. It is not very hard to miss what their voters, a mix of extremist Evangelical Christians, QAnon crazies, and MAGA fanatics, might sound like when they speak, or might behave like when they act.

In brief, there is no escaping the anger of mentally unwell lawmakers. They are the spitting image of the people who ushered them into office.

THE SAD TRUTH

This is the sad truth about America. The lack of awareness due mostly to the lack of education, often for no fault of their own, produces the maniac members of Congress we see or read about in the news. It’s very hard not to miss their mental state of mind.

Many in the same Congress, on the GOP side, want to keep it that way. The less educated their constituents are, the more inclined they are to vote them into office, and the more they can keep pulling the wool over their eyes. The best example to provide here is how the GOP convinced its base that a universal health insurance, as they have in England, Canada, France, Sweden, Australia, and so many other developed countries, is a communist concept. And if told that Canada is a communist country, the same voters would go along with that description, and repeat it like parrots in a pet store.

Frequently it’s the lack of education as well as the lack of intellect. GOP rural voters repeat the sound bites without thinking about their meanings, or why their legislators might have said it. This perpetuity of ignorance is a Ferris Wheel of votes for the GOP lawmakers. Their constituents will always vote them back into office.

Congress represents a slice of Americana because we are who we vote for.

While past Representatives kept their anger under control, in the Trump era, they are unwilling to maintain a decorum of civility, which means that Americans paying attention should expect to be shocked over and over again.

In brief, there is no escaping the anger of mentally unwell lawmakers. They are the spitting image of the people who ushered them into office.
