Covenant School Shooting Hits the GOP Home

It is by far one of the saddest mass murder live coverage to witness, which took the lives of 3 children and 3 adults at a Christian school in Nashville. In addition to the 28-year, mentally-ill shooter who was able to purchase 7 guns from 5 different stores. Because of Forest Hills demographics, where the school is located, the Christian Covenant school shooting hits the GOP home in terms of wealth, race, and voting record.

Forest Hills is one of the richest white neighborhoods in Tennessee. Its median income is $205,997 when the US median incomes hover around $64,994 making Forest Hills almost four times wealthier than the national average.

Tennessee also happens to be one of the least regulated states in the union when it comes to gun control. Literally, anyone can buy a gun, which also means anyone can shoot children in schools. Go figure, the Republican position on gun control in a world where weapons are now inflicting on their voters the same pain and suffering it has been inflicting on less affluent minority communities for decades.

Will this tragedy put the brakes on the GOP reckless voting record? We doubt it.

NOTICE TWO ABSENCES

If you watch the news closely, you will notice two distinct absences from our TV screens. GOP politicians willing to appear on TV to explain the senseless killing of their own children, and the parents of the Covenant school who have yet to render an opinion on the needless murders hitting them close to home because, mostly, of their voting records in support of lax gun laws.

Neither one wants to make their stand against gun control in spite of the tragedy befalling their own community. One that the rest of us squirm and cry over when we see it happen so often.

Where is the NRA to explain their position on lax gun controls, which are now heading, believe it or not, to permit any citizen in the United States to carry a gun openly, including assault rifles like the AR/15, without any permit or license?

You know who else does that? The terrorist organizations Hezbollah in Lebanon and ISIS in Syria. Both their fighters carry guns openly in streets and supermarkets. Because of Evangelical and NRA lobbying, the very same whose children study at the Covenant school, the United States of America is heading towards the same total anarchy we find in Lebanon and Syria today.

Will this tragedy put the brakes on the GOP reckless voting record? We doubt it. This single event will not change their minds, although we believe the white mothers of all these children and every child in Tennessee may now vote more responsibly in the next election cycle. How could they not?

Reflection, often, is what humans need first and foremost to address the folly of their actions.

REPRESENTATIVE OGLES IS AN OGRE

To add gasoline to the fire, the Forest Hills 5th district in Tennessee, one which an Andy Ogles represents in Congress, has posed with all members of his family carrying guns to send to his constituents as a Christmas card. How is that for a shameful behavior? We wonder what damage control he will be able to concoct other than the tired “thoughts and prayers” routine he will probably and excruciatingly vomit.

Wed did not have to wait long. Watch what this unconscionable man said to the media.

This is how much these miscreants care about the mass murder of the children of their own voters. He said it. “Why should I care?”

It seems that every shooting of school children, most Americans hope it would be the last as Congress starts legislating against the craziness sweeping the country. But every time, the results are the same. No action, and no new laws to stem the tide of violence against children. It has truly become a hopless case.

But unless Republican white mothers wake up to the folly of their men standing in the way of gun control, and start voting secretly against the runaway violence the GOP is engineering, the Covenant school shooting may hit home but may also simply bounce off their conscience as quickly.

Having said that, the fact that Christian white mothers whose children attend the school have yet to step up to denounce gun violence may not be such a bad sign. Why? Because they are mostly reflecting on the tragedy coming into their living rooms.

Reflection, often, is what humans need first and foremost to address the folly of their actions.

This brave Nashville council member has already entered that stage and made her position clear.
