Is There a Conspiracy to Let Trump Off the Hook?

The announcement by the Department of Justice to appoint Jack Smith, a special council, to determine the fate of the 45th President with regard to two distinct crimes he committed hinges on two factors to succeed in prosecuting Donald Trump. First that Jack Smith will find Trump guilty, unlike the watered down investigation of Mueller on Russia, and two, that no one, behind the scenes, politically interferes in the process for a Biden-Trump rematch in 2024 our President is itching to make it happen because it might guarantee him another win. Is there a conspiracy to let Trump off the hook by providing Jack Smith with inconsequential and insufficient information to prosecute the Fuhrer?

After all, the outcome is as good as the information the Department of Justice delivers to Mr. Smith if all things are equal. If the DOJ shortchanges Mr. Smith, he has no choice but to shortchange the outcome based on what the DOJ provided.

Yes, we know. Shame on us for thinking along these lines, but, honestly speaking, we have learned long time ago that in politics there is no shame in deception, and therefore, there should be no shame in assuming such might happen with so much at stakes in the 2024 presidential elections.

Ultimately, the most damning detailed information about the crimes Trump committed is in the hands of the very few. The stuff that ends up prosecuting people.

A man who captured the imagination of all the racists and the demagogues living on the fringes of an animal kingdom.

WHAT ABOUT APPOINTING A SPECIAL COUNCIL?

Furthermore, the appointment of a special council might delay considerably the prosecutorial timetable to benefit Trump because it would take so much time for Jack Smith to hire his own staff and for all to learn about any details the DOJ would provide about the cases.

Some, like Barbara McQuade, a prosecutor by trade, has argued against the idea in a Time magazine article. Her main concern is exactly the delay it may cause, which might drag into late 2024. Could that become a Damocles Sword over Trump’s neck as he campaigns against Biden should he win the nomination of the GOP? Or is that a coincidence? We will let much savvier people make that call.

Our primary concern is the idea that there may be a conspiracy to let Trump off the hook in order for our President to sail through an election in 2024. Not that we are against Joseph Biden winning, we would love that, but we are against him putting the presidency and the country at risk by continuing to make Trumpism relevant just because he refuses to yield the gavel to a much more dynamic and younger candidate.

In the past, most of Trump supporters stayed home anyway. None of the candidates who ran for president met their Litmus test of ultra racism and bigotry.

ARE WE GETTING AHEAD OF OURSELVES?

It is possible we are getting ahead of ourselves here. It is also possible that our concerns are misplaced. Call it the Trump Syndrome. His danger never ceases to impact the lives of tens of millions of Americans unwilling to accept a demented and a deranged Florida man who thinks the country owes him the presidency. A man who captured the imagination of all the racists and the demagogues living on the fringes of an animal kingdom. Literally, like animals.

A January 2022 poll showed that 70% of Americans do not want to see neither Joe Biden, nor Donald Trump run in 2024. But what happens if both parties ram the two candidates down our throats? How would the public react? Will they stay home, which might help Trump more than Biden? Or, will we see DeSantis — Not DeSantis, the First Amendment killer please – or Pence defeat Trump in the primaries to make the 2024 more palpable?

Most of that hinges, possibly, on the DOJ investigations, which bring us back full circle to the special council. An investigation that finds Trump guilty might, finally, force the GOP to face reality. Not that Trumps’ racists and Nazi supporters will ever abandon their Fuhrer, but the GOP at that time might finally decide to break clean even at the risk of Trump voters staying home.

That clean break will have to come sooner or later. In the past, most of Trump supporters stayed home anyway. None of the candidates who ran for president met their Litmus test of ultra racism and bigotry. In a way, the GOP would lose some voters it never was able to muster anyway.

So, are we wrong making the above assumptions? Will we see the Democrats save Trump to have him on the ballot in 2024? Just as they helped the MAGA denialists in the mid-term to win more seats than predicted?

Or, do they think that Trump is far more dangerous for the country and therefore Joseph Biden’s DOJ must bury him for good? Politics being politics, who knows? We would like to think that our leaders have more sense than we credit them with. But, we also know that politics is a dirty game no one stays clean while playing by its rules.
