You know Donald Trump. You know what kind of a person he is. Revenge is his oxygen and because he has yet to punish Senator Mitch McConnell for his attempts at steering the GOP away from his cult personality, the previous one may have plans for Mitch in 2022 to keep him from ever becoming the Majority Leader of the Senate again. Is Trump setting a trap for Mitch McConnell in 2022? It is highly probable considering his endorsement of Glenn Youngkin, which many believe may have killed Youngkin’s chance of becoming the Governor of Virginia.

This is Trump’s way of holding the whole GOP accountable to his whims and lies. Today is a Governor, but tomorrow it will be Republican Senators he will kill their chances of ever winning an election.

If the GOP were serious about fighting crime, they would have voted for a bipartisan commission to investigate their insurrection.

TRUMP ONLY CARES ABOUT TRUMP

Any reasonable person would see how wrong this might be regardless of political affiliations. But that person also has come to know the previous one and his angry tantrums against those who stand in his way also regardless of political affiliations.

Americans know by now that Trump only cares about Trump. The man only nurtures his appetite for settling scores through undignified acts of revenge. So, yes I think Donald Trump is going to do his darn best to keep Republican Senators from winning in 2022. As payback to Mitch McConnell.

The same is not true for the House where Kevin McCarthy has kissed Trump’s boots to satisfy his narcissism.

Anyone out there who believes Trump would not dare break the GOP apart in 2022 to forge his legacy around the doctrine of absolute and indisputable loyalty to his cult has been hibernating the last five years.

Meanwhile, the GOP has selected the theme of “fighting crime” for the 2022 elections, not loyalty to Trump. For those who don’t read GOP code, “fighting crime” is another way of saying “we are going to unleash white police officers on black and brown people”. If the GOP Senators were serious about fighting crime, they would have voted for a bipartisan commission to investigate their insurrection.

… Trump’s legal jeopardy today lies more in the hands of courts in New York and Georgia than in the hands of the Democrats on the Hill.

THE 2022 FIREWORKS

If Trump follows his instincts and pursues a strategy to make sure the Senate stays out of McConnell’s hands, it will be by far the most interesting year in US politics.

Some may discount this possibility citing actions the Democrats may take to punish Donald Trump for his illegal and dangerous behavior if they fully comfortably controlled the Senate. That possibility diminished considerably when A.G. Merrick Garland refused to indict Trump’s operatives by pursuing their incarceration or indictments. In effect, Trump may feel secure enough that the Democrats have other goals in mind to actually take the risk of letting them control the Senate.

After all, what else can they do? The House is setting up a commission to investigate 1/6, and Trump’s legal jeopardy today lies more in the hands of courts in New York and Georgia than in the hands of the Democrats on the Hill. Democrats controlling the Senate are no threat to the personae of Donald Trump.

To answer my question: Is Trump setting a trap for McConnell in 2022? I believe he is. Another year and we will know for sure.
