How did our country land such mediocrity as Jim Jordan for Speaker of the House? How is Congress considering installing an insurrectionist as Speaker of the same house he tried to bring down on January 6? At least, nominated for one. Here at Punditry, we blame the ultimate obscenity, whose name is Donald Trump.
God help this nation go past the Trumpist era of betrayal, incompetence, and indecency.
Of course, we are prematurely assuming he will earn this coveted place, which is certainly not a guarantee. The man has some stairs to climb, all 217 of them, to reach that summit. We are not certain he can pull it off, nor that anyone can, considering the extremism of the Freedom Caucus dictating what Trump calls from the sidelines.
The normal and sane Republicans better not roll over and play dead by letting a handful of MAGA extremists control the House. History is watching all of them, and so are their voters.
If Jim Jordan becomes Speaker of the House, God help us and help this country.
AN INSURRECTIONIST PAR EXCELLENCE
In an NBC article, Sahil Kapur and Julia Jester quote House Minority Leader Rep. Hakeem Jeffries as saying:
Folks, Mr. Jeffries forgot to say that he was part and parcel of the January 6 insurrection, which meant to overturn the 2020 election results. However, House Minority Whip Katherine Clark (D-MA) did not mince her words when she took the mantle to describe Jordan. She said: “He was directly involved in the right-wing coup that sought to overturn the 2020 election, Every Republican who cast their vote for him is siding with an insurrectionist against our democracy”.
Way to go, Katherine. Peel that rotten onion for the world to see the Trump impact on our country. Incidentally, top on Jim Jordan’s agenda is a push towards a national abortion ban. In addition to impeaching President Biden without a shred of evidence for committing anything close to “impeachable”. Jim Jordan, in a way, represents the ugly face of Trump and his journey to exact revenge on all those who held him accountable under the law.
It’s not every day that America gets to vote for a twice-impeached US President, facing 91 counts for breaking the law and acting more like a Mafia boss than a Commander-in-Chief.
If Jim Jordan becomes Speaker of the House, God help us and help this country.
The longer this Congress has to endure such turmoil, the higher the chances Matt Gaetz will become the Frankenstein figure in Congress.
THE LONGER IT GOES
Have you noticed how deafening is the silence of Matt Gaetz after-his-earthquake moment? Because of a personal vendetta against Kevin McCarthy, the devil incarnate has caused a civil war to erupt within the House GOP. Mind you, during a difficult time in our history.
As we said, incompetence and indecency.
The longer this Congress has to endure such turmoil, the higher the chances Matt Gaetz will become the Frankenstein figure in Congress. The number of his enemies are on the rise. It won’t surprise us at all if he finds himself fighting hard to keep his job. Men, like him, should not represent anyone in our democracy.
His voters must be the least informed Americans in all the United States if they vote him back into office in subsequent elections. It is hard to imagine him becoming anything but a thorn in the side of Congress.
Especially if this GOP civil war episode extends indefinitely.
