There was an incident in the State of Georgia on the campus of Valdosta State College in which a U.S. Air Force veteran, Michelle Manhart, interfered to stop students from desecrating the U.S. flag.

As a result, Manhart was arrested for her attempts. Authorities are also looking for an Eric Shepperd (photo), presumably armed and dangerous. A big pro-flag rally is underway this weekend in support of Manhart’s actions. Valdosta College determined it is a constitutional right for their students to defile the American flag.

It never ceases to amaze us here at RPS when we come across stories like these. For those who are clueless about why we should love our country, respect our flag should go live in places like Syria, North Korea, Cuba, Gaza, or Iran to fully grasp the meaning of freedom.

Some in this young generation of Americans are as ignorant as a herd of buffaloes. They simply do not understand how great this nation is to its citizens, in spite of the complexities of a big government trying to keep stability and order across the planet often with less desirable choices than we wish.

Maybe we should ship the likes of Eric Shepperd to live in Aleppo Syria for a whole month to understand how precious our freedom is as compared to the tyranny of the Assad regime.

Maybe we should demand that Valdosta College students experience a barrel bomb or two to re-assess their views of how great it is to live in this country.

Maybe Valdosta College should introduce a course for all its incoming freshmen in which they watch videos, pictures, and images of atrocities and death perpetrated by what may be the alternative to our system of government. Love our country, respect our flag.

Instead of a Disney theater to watch in 3D entertaining movies, maybe they should use that technology to experience what it feels like to live in total fear cramped in basements waiting for barrel bombs and Chlorine Gas to drop from the dark skies of Aleppo or Homs or Idlib.

Maybe Valdosta College students should live in Raqqa Syria to experience what it feels like to live under the ISIS rules. A place where minor infractions are met with beheadings or stoning. Maybe Eric Shepperd would feel right at home in those environments. Love our country, respect our flag.

Only American immigrants who lived under any Soviet system of government understand how precious American freedom is. We experienced both and it is not hard for us to choose the love of this country over the evil mankind is willing to perpetrate against its own fellow citizens.

The American flag would never be desecrated by those with such an experience.

Love our country, respect our flag
