Punditry StaffOne of the most important lessons many have learned from the January 6 insurrection is that there is no fascism vaccine for our democracy. If we don’t defend it with our blood, sweat, and tears, it might crumble. The con man came close, and this is why every American must become an activist in their own ways to protect the core premise of our Framers’ intent. Without all of us participating, America’s democracy might collapse under the weight of fascism, martial laws, and authoritarianism. We came really close on January 6.
Every American who truly loves this country must choose their venues for protecting our rights. Whether you donate $5 a month to Black Lives Matter, man the phones for Represent.us, or make a considerable contribution to CREW (Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington), it is our duty to work hard to protect our democratic way of life.
Democracy is not immune from a fascist takeover.
Yes, democracy is not free, but our participation in protecting it collectively is also not costly. Few minutes of one’s time daily is all it takes to do our part.
DEMOCRACY IS NOT FREE
When you look at humanity’s history of our civilizations, be it western or eastern, there is one common denominator conclusion to illustrate their staying power. The people suffered for freedom and the right to happiness. It should be no different for our American democracy, which means every American has a duty to become an activist of sort.
Having a Twitter account to protect our democracy is activism. Writing about the importance of democracy is activism. Just choose your venue, and do it. Apathy is not an option.
Real democracy comes with a price tag that often is measured in terms of lives lost, or sacrifices made. In the case of our young democracy, the sacrifices so many made in the past contributed to many of the laws that today are protecting us from the evil of fascism. But laws are not enough if the people are not actively engaged in the process of shielding our institutions from the curse of fascism.
This is why our participation, in one form or another, is so crucial. Without it, men with evil intent will sneak behind our backs to claim our freedom. They would not hesitate a second to dismantle the last vestige of our democracy.

TRUMP CAME CLOSE TO IMPOSING MARTIAL LAW
Remember when Michael Flynn was urging Donald Trump to declare martial law after Trump lost the elections? And if you think it would not have worked, consider the millions of Trump voters descending on Washington with their guns, like Hitler’s storm troopers, to protect their dictator. It would have been a choice between Trump and a devastating civil war. Either way, our democracy would have lost. In less than a day possibly.
Furthermore, since Donald Trump remains a threat to our country, his danger is even more intense today than yesterday. Whatever mistakes he made the first time, he will not repeat when he becomes the fascist kidnapper of our democracy. In other words, only our activism can stop what remains to be a very grave danger to our democracy.
So, please pick-up your cause, charity, or think tank and start donating, calling, or tweeting to do your part. The power of millions of activists is our only antidote against fascism because, unfortunately, we don’t have a fascism vaccine for our democracy except our labor of love and our firm voices of reason.
