The argument the Putin regime of terror makes with regard to NATO’s expansion has often centered on the justification that the West intends to invade and occupy the largest country in the world. For those who are familiar with geo-military realities, no army in the world, no matter how advanced, can sustain an occupation of certain countries that meet a certain land mass and/or a resisting population. There is a limit to occupation and colonization in today’s modern warfare and communication dissemination, which Putin is misleading the world because of his own expansionist intentions. With regard to Ukraine, Russian aggression is pure terrorism because Russia is not a country the United States or any in Europe can invade and occupy if its population resisted.

The best NATO strategy is containment, not occupation, and considering Russian aggression against the Ukraine, NATO’s expansion is proving to be the correct strategy. Post WWII, the West has built the trust with defeated past enemies like Japan and Germany, but such is not possible with Russia because its WWII gains remain a source of self-infallibility and a perception of grandeur that can only be contained systemically with NATO expanding its footprint.

RUSSIAN AGGRESSION IS PURE TERRORISM

This is the argument the West leaders have concluded in view of how rogue Russia has become and how weak the United Nations has been in containing Putin and his terror. Since its collapse, with the Berlin Wall coming down, Russia has used the West to rebuild itself militarily and economically for the day it could recapture its lost glory of occupying and submitting Europe to its iron fist.

If given the chance, Vladimir Putin would be driving towards Poland today if not for NATO.

Meanwhile, no one should believe that any country can wage a war against Russia and occupy it. It is simply too vast and too populous for any occupation to succeed. So, the best we can hope for is to contain the Russian bear and lock him up until the Russians themselves begin to grasp that their past is behind them. The West will not let their country expand again to the old days of the Soviet Union and the cold war.

That last part Putin is refusing to digest; or maybe he finally understood that his commitment to war is prohibiting him from extrapolating himself from Ukraine without losing power or his life. The Ukrainian nightmare remains elusive for him without looking like a loser.

The fact that Sweden and Finland are going to join NATO soon shows just how much Vladimir Putin underestimated the will of the West to isolate him and turn Russia into an economically irrelevant nation.

ARMING UKRAINE IS THE BEST INVESTMENT

Seriously, it matters little how much we spend arming Ukraine today, it will always be a fraction of the cost the West may endure if we let the Russian bear out of its cage. That last part, Putin refuses to understand or admit.

Living under the hell of a Soviet empire was an experience no European country wants repeated no matter the sacrifices one, or all, would have to make today. This world order is passé, but Putin believes the periods between WWII and the Reagan years, yesterday’s Russia mattered because it subjected Europe to a heavy toll for defeating the Nazi regime. The United States and Europe disagree, ergo the real role of NATO.

Winning Ukraine is so imperative for one simple reason, which is to finally end Russian ambitions of choking Europe. The fact that Sweden and Finland are going to join NATO soon shows just how much Vladimir Putin underestimated the will of the West to isolate him and turn Russia into an economically irrelevant nation.

… and the worst is yet to come for the Russian economy as Europe begins to develop self-independence and self-sufficiency.
