For every Arab country with a broken back, there is a culprit straw somewhere in the desert that broke it.
The last straw that broke the Saudia’s back was the vacillating comedy of President Obama to punish Baschar al-Assad for gassing women and children. If people could say what the %$#^&* did just happen after watching Obama sway with the wind on Syria, countries have the power to say it with an earsplitting echo.
Not every day you get the chance to hear an angry Saudi official, which is as rare as sighting a snow leopard giving birth, deliver a scathing condemnation of the Obama Administration’s handling of the Syrian tragedy. Prince Turki al-Faisal, ex-intelligence Saudi chief and son to King Faisal bin Abdul Aziz, was quoted saying:
“The current charade of international control over Bashar’s chemical arsenal would be funny if it were not so blatantly perfidious. And designed not only to give Mr. Obama an opportunity to back down (from military strikes), but also to help Assad to butcher his people,”
This is as direct an accusation for “help[ing] Assad to butcher his people” as we have ever heard a past official of any country level against a sitting US President. Mind you, the frustration of the Saudis spilling over cannot even come close to the frustration and anger of Syrians or Syrian-Americans who watched this President flutter and dither like a leaf in the wind indirectly permitting Assad to kill over 120,000 Syrians.
Mr. Obama is the best proof yet that good orators can be the worst leaders.
Saudia stirring is not a good sign for the US. From its very inception in uniting Najd and Hijaz in 1932, Saudi Arabia has been a friend of the West and particularly the US since WWII. However, Mr. Obama’s policies, which have already delivered Egypt to the Islamists, also just delivered Saudia to Europe completely to include tens of billions of US trade annually.
If you have argued against Syrian intervention on the basis that US interests are not affected, you should be sent back to your high school to begin a real process of learning the basics.
The words to describe Mr. Obama’s foreign policy as “disastrous” does not even come close to reality. Americans have voted for a community organizer who has never left the Auburn Gresham neighborhood in Chicago to run the world and the results are before us.
During the last 30 months or so, Mr. Obama has blocked any nation from sending sophisticated weapons to the rebels to defend themselves with, which is independent of US boots on the ground or US funding of wars. This blockade has always been enigmatic to say the least except to explain one goal: Mr. Obama wants Assad to remain in power.
Explaining how Mr. Obama supported a mass murderer all of Europe urged him to act decisively to remove from power is not easy. Not only you have to hide your motives, but also you have to veil your policy to confuse the rest of the world.
However, with Saudia leaving Obama’s side to answer to his critics, the flow of sophisticated weapons to the rebels will begin earnestly. The US is not the only country that sells surface to air missiles to down old decrepit MIG jets. Our sense Obama will respond be relieving the Iranians of their sanctions to permit them to buy some advanced MIGs from Russia. However, do not wait for this President to explain this “cause” and “effect” with that decision. He will instead mask as usual his actions with some trivial excuse.
Because of Obama, against him stand the Republican Party, over half of the American people, almost all of Europe, and most of the Arab countries. Obama’s friends right now are Sen. Harry Reid, Rep. Nancy Pelosi, Baschar al-Assad, Ayatollah Khamenei, and Vladimir Putin. Good company for people with masks to wear and lies to spread.
We applaud the Saudia decision to break away from a President too plastered to his narrow-minded ideology to see how harmful his hesitation and lack of leadership are to US interests. We honestly do not expect him to see this episode as a wake-up call. Rather, he would see it as an effort to challenge his wisdom and he may be huddled with his like-minded advisers at this moment to respond by lifting the sanctions against Iran. That would not surprise us at all.
The next three months are going to be interesting indeed because major Arab countries are breaking away from the Obama’s harmful policies and will begin to act independently to protect their interests. Meanwhile, we think the Saudis should boycott Geneva II to send the message loud and clear to the Syrian opposition not to attend. Attempting a peace conference when the opposition is at its weakest point because of a direct US policy is infantile. It shows where the US agenda is when it comes to helping the Syrian people remove Assad.
We are reminded of President Bush and Vice-President Cheney who met with the Syrian and Iranian oppositions to show how serious they were about freedom and a better future for Syrians and Iranians. This President has yet to meet with any Syrian or Iranian opposition group or leaders, which should be the barometer to explain his support for Assad and Khamenei. Hating America pays dividends with this President.
We wish President Obama a long and prosperous life, but if we are asked to write his epitaph, our choice is this Einstein quote:
The world is a dangerous place to live; not because of the people who are evil, but because of the people who don’t do anything about it.
