South Africa’s Short Memory

Assad Dead Man Walking. If Not Today, Then Soon
The Free Syrian Army vs. the Syrian National Council — Which Should We Support?
U.S. peace talks on Syria over before start?

In the late eighties, the world rallied behind South Africa to free its people from a strangling Apartheid system. Americans, Europeans, Africans all supported its dismantlement in order to free the blacks from the whites.

Today, South Africa is playing a role not too dissimilar from the one promoted by the Apartheid System. The visit by South Africa's Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe to Syria in order to sign cooperative agreements on trade and investments with the oppressive Assad regime shows just how an oppressed people, when freed, has no impact on freeing other people. The South African government could care less about our people when we cared so much about theirs.

Shame on you South Africa. Shame on Mandella for turning his back on the freedom of others.
