Saudi Arabia is busy planting stories about how far the country leadership is stepping outside its comfort zone to help Syrians when it is quite obvious that the Saudi PR machine in the US and elsewhere is churning one lie after another.
Any American-Syrian who believes Saudi Arabia wants to free the Syrian people should also believe in fairy tales. Why? Because the Arab League voted for Qaddafi’s ouster in 25 days after violence erupted and the League has yet to vote for anything similar. They cannot even deliver humanitarian aid.
Walking out of the “Friends of Syria” gathering? A ploy.
Talking of arming the Syrian opposition? Hogwash.
Feeling sorry for the innocent Syrians getting killed? Only the Saudi people but not al-Saud.
This paragraph, published in a Bloomberg News story, shows the extent of their spin
“The Saudi position on Syria is unprecedented, ever since King Abdulaziz, the founding father, Saudi Arabia has never taken such a bold position against an Arab state by siding with a revolution.” — Khalid al-Dakhil, professor of political science at King Saud University in Riyadh.
What about Libya Mr. al-Dakhil? If Syria is bold, would you call protecting the Butcher of Darfur cowardly then? What about the harboring of Ben Ali of Tunisia? Remember Idi Amin Mr. al-Dakhil? Saudi Arabia has a long history of protecting killers, psychos, and deposed Arab rulers.
The worst part is that they are not quitting. The stories become more and more unreal and the Saudi spin makes one wonder how far a country is willing to go in its attempt at saving the skin of its ruling family before it realizes it is the ridicule of so many.
I cannot tell you the number of people I meet on a daily basis who gives me this coy smile when the subject of Saudi Arabia is raised. They all understand how dirty their game is.
And the Syrian people are starting to understand that game as well. This may explain the intensity of the Saudi PR campaign resulting from pushing too many panic buttons at once.
Seismologists at Stanford University concluded that there are earthquakes that are silent and which come in the form of slow-moving temblors that move the ground without shaking it. Stanford geophysicist professor Gregory C. Beroza said that “Silent earthquakes do not generate seismic waves, so you don’t feel them,”
The Arab League is experiencing a silent earthquake today and no one is feeling it now but they will soon see its effects.
COMMENTS
The primary interest of the Saudis is to hurt Iran – or any Shiites, really.
Trouble in Syria means problems for Iran.
The Saudis certainly do not want to see freedom in Syria. A strong Sunni ruler would suit them well.
