Punditry StaffThe whole world knows that what Hamas has done is egregious, and the world needs to unite to remove this cancer. But so did Russia when it attacked Ukraine, and so did Assad of Syria when he gassed his own people. How did we respond to those terrorists? By imposing sanctions. So, why are we not imposing sanctions on Hamas too instead of bombing Gaza and its civilians to smithereens, thus causing the death, so far, of some 2,000 children? Why there is no sympathy for Palestinian civilians by the United States and Israel?
Terrorizing women and children puts Netanyahu and Biden in the same class of actors as Putin and Assad. Yes, to imposing sanctions on Hamas, then hunting and killing those responsible for Israeli death of women and children just as Israel hunted and killed the killers of 1972 Munich. But no, to carpet bombardment of Gaza to kill thousands of civilians.
We are outraged at Putin killing Ukrainian women and children, yet, we facilitate, through our weapons, the same crimes against innocent Palestinian women and children.
President Biden cannot have it both ways.
The world is beginning to question how America responds to certain tragic events with total indifference to human life, while it responds, when politically convenient, to similar tragic events with total outrage.
MEETING ARAB LEADERS WON’T HELP
Biden met with Arab and Muslim leaders, who urged him to show empathy towards civilians in Gaza. Biden will most likely ignore their pleas, and even he must know that the Arab-American voters in swing state like Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Georgia have limits to their tolerance. Their leaders will not persuade them to vote for the President in 2024 if Israel keeps bombing Gaza relentlessly and immorally.
Against international law and laws governing our humanity that we spring against our enemies when convenient.
Should we not also bomb Russia? Or Syria? Or Iran? For killing innocent civilians the way Hamas killed innocent Israelis. Indeed, Netanyahu is killing with the same kind of brutality Assad of Syria killed his own people. Are we not better than that? Why are we behaving with the same barbarity, and without any remorse?
What happened to our western values and compassion? One day, history will not be kind to the extremists waging a war on the innocent today. Not the prime minister of Israel, and not the President of the United States because there is no greatness to be had in killing women and children.
The world is beginning to question how America responds to certain tragic events with total indifference to human life, while it responds, when politically convenient, to similar tragic events with total outrage. As if the life of the innocent is a tradable commodity.
Shame on us for differentiating between the lives of Israeli children and Palestinian children. All the aid money in the world would never erase that disgraceful and insidious distinction in the minds of the global community.
