If an American reader sifts through the articles of an Israeli newspaper, the headlines would send a chill down their back. Bar the destruction, Israel is more broken than Gaza politically and socially, as Israelis turn on each other to attack the Netanyahu government that led them to this horrific war.
For example, here are some of the headlines from Haaretz for November 21, 2023, some 46 days after October 7:
- ‘Netanyahu Must Go, Now’: Israel’s Newly Bereaved Families Are Holding One Man Responsible.
- Israel’s Deadly Complacency Wasn’t Just an Intelligence Failure.
- Israel’s State Prosecutor Warns Police: Unjustified Arrest of Dissenters Harms the Rule of Law.
- Children Are Children, Whether in Israel or Gaza. They Never Deserve to Die.
- Why Netanyahu Won’t Shut Down the Crazy Talk About ‘Resettling’ Gaza.
- A Population Transfer Under the Cover of War: A Visit to the Forsaken Land of Settler Militias.
In brief, the people of Israel are turning against their own government, whose extremism and lack of popularity President Biden is totally ignoring. Something you would expect Donald Trump to do, and not a President representing the liberal Democrats. No wonder, Biden’s own popularity is tanking as fast as that of Benjamin Netanyahu.
So, when Netanyahu kills the women and children of Gaza by the thousands, he is writing the first script of a future Israeli war.
NETANYAHU IS MAKING ISRAEL PAY FOR HIS MISTAKES
As Mr. Bibi bombs his way to self-salvation, he is leaving behind a legacy that would further endanger Israel. No country has been able to bomb its way out of terror, as proven by the existence of U.S. troops in Syria to this day. And as we witnessed U.S. actions in Afghanistan and Iraq, or Israeli action against Syria and Lebanon. Violence begets more violence. Taliban, ISIS, and Hezbollah still live. So will Hamas, in one form or another.
So, when Netanyahu kills the women and children of Gaza by the thousands, he is writing the first script of a future Israeli war. When his policies encourage settlers to kill Palestinians on the West Bank with abandon, he is writing Israel’s future in the blood of her sons and daughters. That’s the part violent ideologues, like Netanyahu, could never come to grip with. It’s brain wiring, really.
A democracy occupying people and mistreating them cannot escape the scrutiny of a connected 21st century. There is a good reason why human rights organizations are calling Israel an apartheid state ever since Netanyahu ascended to power. The worst part? The Israeli prime minster has yet to learn his lesson as he destroys Gaza out of revenge and vindictiveness. The one Hamas showed how incompetent he is to rule a democracy.
Israel is a semi-broken country because of Netanyahu’s policies of ruling the Palestinians with an iron fist. Not his people, nor the world, would ever forget the man who might have led us to WWIII just to please some extremist settlers out to kill their way to grabbing more lands that do not belong to them.
Such also led to a flare up in antisemitism that many good Jews around the world fear, for no fault of their own, might become permanent. We hope not.
Meanwhile, our witless President is taking an extended nap.
